Course overview
The overall aim of this workshop is to train the ESRs in the foundations and technologies of modern optical communication systems and networks. The workshop will cover diverse topics in state-of-the-art optical networking and communication theory, digital signal processing, integrated optical technology and associated measurement techniques and instrumentation. The workshop will consist of one day of tutorials followed by a two-day hands-on training on the industrially qualified software VPIphotonics.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this workshop, the ESRs will be able to:
-
provide an overview of the basics concepts and the state of the art of coherent communications,
-
estimate quantitatively the required performance characteristics (in terms of OSNR, linewidth, power, etc.) of a frequency comb source in current coherent communications systems,
-
identify areas for deployment of frequency comb subsystem technology in optical communications.
Pre-course work and information will be emailed to all registered participants two weeks in advance of the course and students will be expected to complete all assigned pre-course tasks before joining the course.
